Many different types of wire are used for hive frames, but stainless steel is required for work involving food products. This wire has the optimum 0.5 mm thickness for frames.
This thickness gives frames sufficient strength when tensioned and is easy to embed into wax. Bees accept this wire well, build comb on it and rear brood without leaving gaps where the beeswax foundation meets the wire. The plastic spool, 85 mm high, is convenient to use and holds 250 g or 500 g of wire with a length of 240/480 metres.
