This isolator is used for periodic isolation of the queen bee. It restricts the queen bee’s access to combs for egg laying. Queen bee isolation has a positive effect on the queen’s laying rate and the bees’ brood food glands. This in turn improves the efficiency of managing honey bee colonies.

As a result of many years of research into bees, Mykhailo Ivanovych Milenin developed a method which, by managing brood, can help achieve high honey harvest productivity and preserve the bees. Seasonal isolation of the queen bee gives the beekeeper the ability to manage brood and the honey flow effectively. It is carried out 2 times a year. First of all, in spring, every measure should be taken to build up the first generation. When the brood in the nest reaches its maximum amount, the queen bee should be confined one week before the main nectar flow. This provides the maximum amount of brood, which is used throughout the season. By confining the queen bee during the honey flow, we give the bees the opportunity to collect honey by freeing them from caring for brood. This gives a honey harvest result that is 2 times better.
Periodic isolation of the queen bee is carried out to increase honey yield and as a preventive measure against the Varroa mite (1-2 times per season).
Preventive isolation is necessary for all colonies to help eliminate the mite and to feed the wintering generation with more mature nurse bees. It also helps prevent swarming for the entire season.
