Experienced beekeepers often collect propolis. There are many ways to do this, but recently one of the most widely used methods for collecting propolis has been a special grid. The secret of this grid’s popularity lies in its simplicity and efficiency. Over a season, one bee colony deposits from 250–500 grams of propolis on the grid. As the grid is made specifically for collecting propolis, the gaps between the slats are only 2–3 mm, which prevents the propolis from falling down. The grid works on a very simple principle: once it is fixed on the frames of the upper hive body, the bees will try to seal all the gaps in the mesh with propolis. To collect propolis from the grid, it should be cooled to a temperature of 10 °C. The propolis will become much harder, making it possible to remove it from the grid.
