Jenter cage (wide hair roller)

Wide cage for isolating a queen bee or queen cell (large hair roller cage).

The wide cage, Art. 050, is supplied in standard Jenter comb kits. It is designed for isolating a queen cell or queen bee in the hive. The special shape of the cap securely closes the passage for bees. A few grams of queen candy can be placed inside the cap to feed the queen bee while she is confined.

The cage is made so that it can be fitted only onto the yellow holder (the narrow cage can also be fitted over a cell cup). The larger diameter of this cage allows thicker or heavily built-up queen cells to be accommodated.

Often, when there is a good nectar flow, bees build a significant amount of wax comb around the queen cell. When transferring the queen cell into the cage, excess wax should be cut away carefully so as not to damage the queen larva.

Thanks to the option of placing feed inside the cage, the queen bee can remain confined for about a week.
