Dadant queen isolator, used when introducing a new queen bee into a hive and for obtaining brood for queen rearing.
Dadant queen isolator (mesh), 2 frames. The isolator is used when brood for queen rearing is required, or when introducing a new queen bee into a hive. The principle of the device is very simple. The isolator consists of a galvanised metal body with long mesh sides, and holds two Dadant-type frames. The size of the mesh openings in the isolator prevents the queen bee from leaving it and stops worker bees from entering, while allowing the queen bee to work freely on the frames.
Using this isolator, the beekeeper can easily monitor the entire egg-laying process and accurately determine the age of the brood, which is undoubtedly important when rearing queen bees. The isolator can also be used when it is necessary to introduce a new queen bee into a hive. The purpose of this procedure is to allow the queen bee to take on the scent of the hive and, until this happens, to keep worker bees away from her, as they may kill her.
Of course, the queen bee is not idle during adaptation: throughout this time she lays eggs on the combs, and once the isolation is removed, the worker bees will begin working with the brood.
