Formic acid 1 kg

A colourless liquid with a pungent odour. Used for treating bees affected by varroosis.
Honey from bee colonies treated with formic acid can be used as food without restrictions.

Recommendations for use:

To control the Varroa mite, it is recommended to treat the apiary 2 times a year.
- In spring (after the mass cleansing flight of the bees). The product is placed in the hive twice for a period of 3-5 days, with an interval of 12 days.
- In the summer-autumn period (after honey extraction). During this period it is applied once for a period of 3-5 days.

When treating with formic acid, the hive entrances must be kept open.

Formic acid can be applied in three ways:

1. In polyethylene bags measuring 20x30 cm.
Place 2-3 cardboard plates measuring 15 x 25 cm and 3-5 mm thick into the bags, and pour 30-50 ml of formic acid onto them. After the plates have absorbed all the acid, close the bag by folding over its top edge twice. Before use, make 1-3 holes in the bags (depending on the strength of the colony) with a diameter of 1.5 cm, then place them on top of the comb frames with the holes facing downwards and closer to the rear wall of the hive. Place two wooden frames under the bag.

2. In flat bottles with a neck diameter of about 2 cm.
Pour 30-50 ml of formic acid into the bottles and insert twisted gauze wicks of a thickness corresponding to the neck diameter. The wick length should be 3-5 cm greater than the height of the bottle. Soak the wick with acid by immersing it in the bottle using tweezers. Pull one end of the wick out and spread it over the neck. Suspend the bottle from the top bar of an empty frame and place it at the side of the brood nest.

3. In polyethylene household lids with a diameter of 9 cm.
Place an empty polyethylene household lid in the hive on the comb frames, pour 30 ml of formic acid into it and cover with cardboard measuring 10x10 cm.

Safety measures:
When working with formic acid, personal protective equipment must be used, including protective clothing, rubber gloves, a rubberised apron and goggles.
In case of contact with skin, rinse immediately with plenty of cold water, then wash with soap and water.
