Well-cared-for bees will always be active and productive. However, even the best beekeeper is not protected against disease in the apiary. That is why, for the health of the bees, it is recommended to inspect hives periodically and record everything, especially anything related to insect health. In future, these notes will help you recall the period of illness, which bee colony was affected, the treatment method and other important details.

To keep records from being lost and to ensure they are always to hand, a special veterinary and sanitary apiary passport has been developed for beekeepers.

The veterinary passport records the detailed condition of the apiary and all procedures carried out:

• Apiary characteristics;
• Veterinary and sanitary condition of the apiary;
• Epizootic condition of the apiary;
• Laboratory tests;
• Treatment and preventive measures

Beekeepers who keep a veterinary and sanitary passport will always be able to trace the history of their apiary’s condition, its diseases, pathogens and which medicines were used. Based on the records in the passport, if diseases recur, the beekeeper can analyse the period in which each disease most often appears and can take preventive measures or start treatment at any time if necessary.

A veterinary passport is also useful when selling an individual bee colony or an apiary.

The apiary passport can be kept either by the beekeeper alone or together with a veterinarian.
