2-Frame Queen Isolator (Langstroth-Root)

The main function of the isolator is to separate the queen bee from the rest of the hive and the worker bees. The purpose of this isolation can vary.

With this type of isolator, beekeepers can obtain even-aged brood. The queen bee is placed in the isolator with frames prepared for egg laying, and begins to work. The isolator is also used when introducing a new queen bee into a hive. Bees may simply kill a new queen bee; to prevent this, she is placed in the isolator, which is then installed in the hive, where the queen bee begins to take on the hive scent. While in isolation, the queen bee is not idle: during this time she works on the combs. Once the isolator is opened, the worker bees will immediately begin working on the seeded combs.
