A biennial herbaceous honey plant from the legume family — yellow sweet clover. Valued among honey plants for its large number of flowers, which contain plenty of sugar-rich nectar.

Sweet clover honey is especially valued for its distinctive vanilla aroma. The plant is used in perfumery and for scenting soap. Sweet clover itself, as well as the honey produced from it, has many beneficial properties. The plant contains plenty of ascorbic acid and coumarins — substances that help prevent blood clot formation. Sweet clover is rich in proteins, making it an essential forage crop.
The plant reaches up to two metres in height. Long racemes with many yellow flowers form on thick stems. Flowering begins in June and lasts until the end of August, for 30–40 days. Sometimes flowering continues into September.
