Among beekeepers, sainfoin is valued as one of the “best honey plants”. The honey produced from it has many valuable qualities and a pleasant flavour, and contains a large amount of beneficial trace elements.
The flowering period of sainfoin falls in May–June. By this time, spring honey plants have already finished flowering, while summer honey plants have not yet begun. It is also important that, during the sainfoin flowering period, brood rearing is taking place in apiaries. The plant blooms with bright, attractive pink flowers. Sainfoin has high honey productivity and can reach up to 300 kg per hectare. It is grown not only as a honey plant, but also as a fodder crop thanks to its high content of proteins, fats and carbohydrates. It is also successfully used as a green manure crop.
