Queen Bee Marking Marker, Uni POSCA, Japan (acrylic, water-based)

A marker is the easiest way to apply a mark to a queen bee. Even a beekeeper marking a queen bee for the first time can manage it with ease. To apply the mark, simply bring the marker tip to the queen bee’s thorax and the mark is done. There is no need to press or draw lines. This Japanese queen bee marking marker leaves a bright dot in the selected colour, 0.9-1.2 mm in diameter, with a light touch. The special water-based Super-Ink used in the marker is odourless, allowing the beekeeper to release the queen bee back into the hive immediately after marking, or to mark the queen bee directly on the honeycomb. The colour mark on queen bees should correspond to their year of birth

To make it easy to identify the queen bee’s age by the colour of the mark, we recommend marking according to the queen bee’s year of birth. In international beekeeping, each year is assigned a specific colour for queen marking. There are five standard colours in total (white, yellow, red, green and blue), which repeat every five years. Some beekeepers with only a few hives often use just one colour for marking queen bees (for example, the brightest one – white).
