In apiaries located in areas where winds are frequent, it is essential to maintain the heat balance in the hives at all times. If hives are not properly insulated, colony development will be much slower, as the bees are unable to maintain the optimum temperature over a large area of comb. This also has a negative effect on the number of eggs laid by the queen bee. To produce the required amount of heat, bees need to consume a much larger quantity of food. This greatly exhausts the bees, and many of them die.
