Beekeeper’s Kit

Starting something new always raises many different questions. One of them is what to buy first so that it is affordable and genuinely useful in practice.

Essential equipment is also needed in beekeeping. Of course, every beekeeper decides what they need for work in the apiary. However, there are indispensable, priority tools that every beekeeper should have.

What a beekeeper needs in the apiary

For beginner beekeepers, as well as apiarists who have decided to replace their old equipment with more modern and practical tools, UkrBee offers a 7-piece kit:

Beekeeping hive tool

The hive tool is sharpened on both ends. One end is bent at 90°. The handle narrows in the middle, allowing the tool to be held securely in the hand.

Material: stainless steel

Size: 26x4 cm

Purpose: a lever for separating frames, removing frames stuck to the hive body with wax or propolis, scraping wax/propolis from frames, removing nails and cleaning hive walls from bee products.

Frame grip

This tool is one of the most essential items in the apiary. It makes it easy to remove frames from the hive, hold them and place them back.

Ease of use is provided by the wooden handle, shaped for the fingers, while the stainless steel and lightweight construction ensure long-lasting use of the grip.

Material: stainless steel + wood

Purpose: to make removing frames easier during bee colony inspections

Scraper spatula

The wooden handle of the spatula is securely attached to the entire construction. It does not slip and allows the tool to be held firmly and comfortably during use.

Material: stainless steel + wood

Purpose: for cleaning the internal surfaces of the hive from various types of dirt and debris

Beekeeper’s brush 

The brush is fitted with two rows of natural bristles. The bristles are smooth, so when bees are brushed off, they do not become tangled or injured.

The bristle tufts are firmly fixed into the wooden handle.

Material: horsehair, wood

Purpose: for brushing bees off frames during hive inspections, cleaning the hive, moving bees or transporting them

Bee smoker 

The bee smoker is equipped with a protective burn guard. It is simple to use and easy to maintain.

After work, the cylindrical inner cup can be easily removed and the entire bee smoker cleaned.

Material: black steel

Bellows: leatherette + wood

Height: 25.5 cm

Diameter: 9.5 cm

Purpose: for smoking bees during inspection work

Bee smoker components: cylindrical body, cylindrical inner cup with a mesh bottom, burn guard, cone-shaped lid, bellows, bracket for compressing the bellows

Gloves

Professional leather gloves with linen sleeves allow you to carry out all necessary apiary work safely.

Your hands are protected from bee stings, and the sleeves are elasticated to prevent bees from getting into the gloves. In addition, even in hot weather your hands will not sweat in the gloves: small holes across the surface allow air to pass through.

Beekeeping jacket 

The beekeeper’s protective jacket, made from lightweight eco-friendly fabric, provides reliable protection from bee stings during hive inspections. The sleeves and lower part are elasticated.

The viewing mesh on the protective veil is black. It is barely visible, so the mesh will not interfere with the beekeeper while carrying out the necessary work in the apiary.

The jacket has three pockets.
