The modern beekeeping market offers such a wide range of queen bee marking discs that it is easy to overlook important details when choosing them. Markers should not only look neat and attractive, but also be reliable in use and not cause discomfort to the insects. The glue used to attach the disc to the queen bee is equally important, as it also determines how securely the numbered marker will stay in place.
So that beekeepers do not have to buy marking discs and glue separately, the manufacturer has produced a set for queen rearers containing everything needed for applying the markers. The set includes five sheets with marking discs, glue and a wooden stick for applying the marking discs and glue. Each sheet contains 100 numbered marking discs in five colours (from 1 to 100):
Opalith marking discs have a round, domed shape. This makes it quick and easy to fix them onto the insect. Each disc is approximately 3 mm in size. These small numbered markers will not hinder the queen bee and will stay securely on her body.
The marking discs are attached to the insect using glue. The glue included in the set is high-quality and quick-drying, making it safe for the queen bee. The main thing is not to release the insect immediately after applying the glue and disc, but to keep her in a cage for a short while and make sure the glue has fully dried.
