A bee smoker is a device used in the apiary to calm bees when it is necessary to inspect the hive. The smoke produced by the bee smoker helps prevent the spread of the warning signal about approaching danger, which bees pass to one another through their scent-based communication system.
The construction of the bee smoker is very simple: it consists of a cylindrical body with a cone-shaped lid. A special metal cup is placed inside the smoker body, with a sieve-like bottom. The holes in the bottom of the cup allow ash to fall into the dedicated space between the cup and the smoker body. Materials that produce dense smoke while smouldering are placed in the cup.
