Dadant Queen Isolator (3 Frames), Painted Steel

When a beekeeper wants to obtain brood of the same age, or introduce a new queen bee into an already established colony, a special isolator is used.

The Dadant isolator is very simple to use. Three frames with the queen bee are placed inside the isolator, and the isolator itself is placed in the hive. This allows the queen bee to move freely over the combs and lay in the cells. The walls made of mesh have an optimal size that prevents worker bees from reaching the queen bee, while also preventing the queen bee from leaving the isolator. When a new queen bee needs to be introduced into a colony, she is also placed on a frame inside the isolator. It takes several days for the queen bee to take on the scent of the hive. This process significantly increases the chances that the bees will accept the queen bee. If the queen bee is placed directly into the hive without first being held in an isolator, she will almost certainly be killed by the other bees.
