Queen cell protector cap – a component for protecting a mature queen cell.

The plastic cap has a grille-style design intended to help maintain the necessary temperature while the queen bee develops. The queen cell protector cap is fitted with one lug, consisting of two pointed teeth with projections. The lugs are used to cut in and then secure the cap with the queen cell on the comb or between adjacent frames.

Functions of the cap

• Protects the queen cell from bees and from being chewed by other queen bees;
• Protects against damage from frames or being crushed by fingers.

The cap is used for mature queen cells close to emergence. The best placement is the middle of the comb, as the temperature there is most suitable for queen cell maturation.
