Oxalic acid for treating bees against mites (varroosis)
Oxalic acid was one of the first products used in beekeeping that made it possible to control mites in bees effectively (varroosis). Thanks to its high effectiveness and ease of use, this product remains popular with beekeepers.
Oxalic acid can be applied using any of the many available methods. When using a fine spray solution, the crystals should be dissolved in water to make a 2% solution for spraying bees. Recently, oxalic acid has also become very popular among owners of the “Varomor” smoke cannon, which is used to control mites with oxalic acid vapour, significantly increasing the effectiveness of the treatment. Treating bees with oxalic acid does not alter the quality of the honey.
