Oxalic Acid, 1 kg Bag
Oxalic acid is one of the most effective substances for controlling Varroa mites. A dry white crystalline powder packed in 1 kg bags.
Oxalic Acid, 1 kg
Oxalic acid is a white crystalline powder. In nature, it occurs in plants either as the acid itself or as its salts, potassium or calcium esters. It is also known as ethanedioic acid, and even as “sugar salt”.
In beekeeping, oxalic acid is used for treating the spaces between frames in hives. This is necessary to help control pests (Varroa mite), for disinfection, and to help prevent the appearance of mould.
A 2% oxalic acid solution is used.
Preparing the solution:
Recipe 1.
- warm, boiled water - 1 l;
- oxalic acid powder - 20 g
Usage: 5-10 ml of solution for each space between frames. Treatment frequency: three times in spring, at weekly intervals, and also in autumn, after the honey has been harvested and when the temperature is not below + 15ºC.
Recipe 2.
- water - 0.5 cup;
- sugar - 100 g;
- oxalic acid - 7 g
The resulting solution is used once to treat the spaces between frames, at a rate of 5 ml for the entire hive.
Recipe 3.
- pre-prepared sugar syrup at a 20% concentration;
- oxalic acid to a concentration of 3.7%.
Hive treatment with this solution is also carried out once.
Oxalic acid is also widely used in the home, in agriculture, for water softening and other purposes.
Warning! This oxalic acid is technical grade, therefore it must not be used for medical or food purposes! When working with it, safety precautions must be observed; oxalic acid is one of the strong organic acids, although it is the simplest of the carboxylic acids.
