Bee waterer for use with a jar, with an opening for water flow. Includes a float to give bees safe access to water.
One of the essential factors in maintaining bee health is constant access to water. To prevent bees from having to search for water themselves, every apiary should have bee waterers.
To use the waterer, fill a standard glass jar with water. Place the waterer over the mouth of the jar, then turn the jar and waterer upside down together. Water from the jar will pass into the waterer in the required amount through a small opening and immediately fill the reservoir.
These waterers are safe for bees, as they include a float with holes, giving bees free access to water without risk to the insects.
The beekeeper can decide how much water to add and what size jar to use. However, it is not advisable to use large jars simply to hold more liquid and reduce refilling frequency. The water may become stagnant and the bees will not use it.
It is also recommended to place the waterer in the shade so that the water does not heat up.
