Zander-2 Queen Cell Cage images
Plastic cage for isolating a queen cell during the final stage of its development.
The Zander-2 cage consists of a body, two plastic side grids (one of which opens) and a plug for the opening in the top of the cage.
The principle of this isolation cage is very simple. At the top of the cage there is an opening closed with a black plug; the plug has a special recess for the cell cup. At the right moment, the cell cup with the already formed queen cell is removed from the grafting frame and fixed into the special opening on the plug. The plug with the cell cup is then placed into the opening of the Zander-2 isolator, with the queen cell facing downwards.
There are two grids with openings on the sides of the isolator, allowing bees full access to the queen cell so they can care for it. The openings in the grids are optimally sized: worker bees can easily enter the isolator to reach the queen cell, while another queen bee cannot pass through openings of this size.
A queen bee that emerges in this isolator will be quite comfortable, with plenty of space to move. Removing the queen bee from the cage is easy: simply slide back one of the side grids of the cage to gain full access to the queen bee.
