The insulation mat is placed on top of the hive cloth or crown boards (ceiling boards) to help maintain the temperature of the bee nest. This felt-like insulation is a synthetic non-woven material 2 cm thick (the thickness may reach 3 cm). The edges do not require additional finishing or covering.
Felt is a dense non-woven material made from felted wool, widely used for insulating beehives. It effectively retains heat in winter and helps keep the hive cooler in summer, maintaining a stable microclimate for the bees. Its breathability helps prevent moisture build-up and fungal development.
