Propolis (bee glue), 10 g
Propolis is most often used to make ointments, balms, water- and alcohol-based tinctures, as well as honey with propolis. Preparations containing propolis are used to support immunity, for viral illnesses, gastrointestinal conditions, wounds, burns, frostbite, fungal conditions, psoriasis and insect bites. An aqueous propolis solution is used for strokes and heart attacks, sinusitis, rhinitis and colds.
Uses:
- destroys a wide range of microorganisms, viruses and fungi;
- used for the treatment and prevention of viral conditions of the oral cavity, gastritis and otitis;
- used as an anaesthetic when treating wounds, burns and frostbite;
- accelerates tissue formation, strengthens capillary walls, and helps heal abscesses and suppuration;
- reduces itching in psoriasis, fungal conditions and insect bites.
Propolis can be used in its pure form, but its taste is quite unpleasant. In addition, it has an anaesthetic effect and “freezes” the tongue and oral mucosa. Swallowing propolis is not recommended. Pure propolis is mainly chewed for sore throats, coughs, toothache and infections in the oral cavity. Do not take more than 1–2 g of propolis per day. A single dose should be no larger than a match head; otherwise, a mucosal burn is possible. Propolis should not be chewed for more than 20 minutes.
In its pure form, propolis has long been used in folk medicine for wound healing and for treating corns, calluses and nail fungus.
